The good news is that you're one of the smart few who don't swallow obvious smears and who actually know a bit of history. The bad news is that even though it may take a genius to pull the wool over your eyes, your eyes can still be fooled. Just remember that even the most intelligent satire ever written is only one argument in the debate. It is also often an argument more convincing for its rhetoric or artistry than for its substance, regardless of the quality of the substance. The first rule, therefore, is to make sure you have separated the satire's points from its spin; while the second rule is to hear out both sides before you decide which has won the debate.
