Good Friday

(All text is from the Liturgy of the Hours for Good Friday)

The price of your redemption was not something of fleeting value like gold or silver, but the costly shedding of the blood of Christ, the lamb without blemish.

Ant.  It was about nine in the morning when they nailed Jesus to the cross.

Isaiah 53:2-3
He grew up like a sapling before him,
like a shoot from the parched earth;
There was in him no stately bearing to makeus look at him,
nor appearance that would attract us to him.
He was spurned and avoided by men,
a man of suffering, accustomed to infirmity,
One of those from whom men hid their faces,
spurned, and we held him in no esteem.

We worship you O Christ, and we praise you.
-- Because by your cross you have redeemed the world.

Ant: From noon until three o'clock, there was darkness over the whole world

Isaiah 53:4-5
Yet it was our infirmities that he bore,
our sufferings that he endured,
While we thought of him as stricken
as one smitten by God and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our offenses,
crushed for our sins,
Upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole,
by his stripes we were healed.

Lord, remember me.
--When you come into your kingdom.

Ant: At three o'clock, Jesus cried out in a loud voice: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Isaiah 53:6-7
We had all gone away like sheep,
each following his own way;
But the Lord laid upon him
the guilt of us all.
Though he was harshly treated, he submitted
and opened not his mouth;
Like a lamb led to the slaughter
or a sheep before the shearers,
he was silent and opened not his mouth.

He has plunged me into darkness.
--Like the dead, long forgotten.

We adore you O Christ and we praise you
Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
