I do that myself alot.

But saying that Mary ignored her Son was simply in complete contrast to the true spirit of the passage, so I couldn't let that one go by.

Keep up your writing - it is quite good.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15170815.post-1153176566555614502006-07-17T17:49:00.000-05:002006-07-17T17:49:00.000-05:00mike, I had a thought as I was driving home...I wa...mike,

I had a thought as I was driving home...I was listening to Mary Healy's talk on the Gospel of John. IN that talk, she expounded greatly on the Wedding at Caana, and in fact, her entire talk was ABOUT it! Could you maybe have been thinking of that when you read my quick comment in this post? The reason I did not discuss this much is because that was not the point of this particular seminar...but her other one WAS!

The entire point of this post was not to "dumb anything down" but rather, to pull out a few things I learned from her about women's role in the Church.

I'll do a disseration on the Wedding of Caana at another time! :-) And when I edit this piece I will take some of your comments, those within the context of this particular topic into consideration. I thank you for your insights.

God bless!Adorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02853244433854822731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15170815.post-1153167755376453822006-07-17T15:22:00.000-05:002006-07-17T15:22:00.000-05:00Thanks for commenting. Keep in mind, I wrote the a...Thanks for commenting.

Keep in mind, I wrote the above piece from my notes...I plan to order the CD but since that hasn't been done...well, then I'm back to my notes.

I actually didn't go into the wedding at caana to any great degree for a couple reasons...neither did Mary Healy, and secondly, that is for a dissertation all by itself. I may actually post seperately about this because it seems everywhere I go lately I'm running into the Wedding at Caana!

Additionally, I did start this post via the same route Dr. Healy did...by tackling the accusastions made against the Bible and Christianity. Thus, the point of my post had more to do with refuting the accusations.

You're right in that I do need to edit and clarify some points so I will certainly take your comments into consideration as I do so. I will also add a disclaimer so that those reading understand that I am not a theologin but am rather trying to convey this great stuff I learned at the conference. :-)

CSPB...I'm not really sure where you're coming from with my having a problem with something Dr. Healy said? I'm confused. Did I convey some impression that I have an issue with her? If so, then please tell me where so I can clarify....I LOVED her talk!

As far as the priesthood...I actualy blogged long ago about my support of the priesthood and gave a lengthy dissertation as to why it makes no sense for women to be priests. As this post was not about ordination, what made you bring it up? I certainly do not want to give anyone the impression I'm a feminazi!

God bless,Adorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02853244433854822731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15170815.post-1153157675814601312006-07-17T12:34:00.000-05:002006-07-17T12:34:00.000-05:00The majority of this piece is sound and refreshing...The majority of this piece is sound and refreshing. I'm heartened.

A few problems, and I don't blame you because you heard them at a conference.

Man and woman have equal roles in salvation history. They have dynamic and complimentary roles, but you state explicitly that women have a greater role in God's Divine plan. This is not accurate, and I don't understand where it comes from, considering the sound points you make beforehand.

Secondly, the Wedding Feast of Cana has been totally skewed and stripped of a lot of its deep theology.

What we first must understand is that "woman" was a term of highest honor to be given to a female. It was a term of respect, not how we would popularly interpret Christ statement to His mother.

Why then would Jesus call His mother woman? Wouldn't he call his mother 'mother'? The answer lies in the fact that he was referring to his mother Mary as the "New Eve" which you make reference to. Read about the "woman" in Genenis and Revelation to understand this better.

The disciples didn't understand this riddle. But Mary, fully understanding the words of her Son, was clued in by this and knew what was going to happen next, so she told the disciples bluntly to "do whatever He tells you".

Mary did not ignore her Son. She was being our intercessor, and mediator. The disciples had a problem, the came to Mary. Mary told Jesus the problem. Jesus gave an odd answer. Mary translated for the disciples. The disciples did an act of faith and voila, first miracle - and one overflowing with theological implications. Please don't muddy this one down.

What we SHOULD be taking from this is how we sometimes do not understand God; the Words of Christ - but Mary is interceding for us; making things clear - blunt if necessary to shake us up.

Lastly, you only mention the women at the foot of the cross of Christ, when Jesus' brother James was there also. And he wasn't just kicking around there either, because a very important interaction would take place between Jesus, Mary, and James that Catholics believe made Mary the mother of our Church.

I know conferences like these go out of there way to make a point, and thankfully, most of the points were good ones, but we can't dumb down really important passages to make auxillary points. There is enough hardcore evidence to show how Christ reinstated the very crucial role of women in Salvation History.

Hope this helps the readers.

PeaceAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15170815.post-1153151024881135702006-07-17T10:43:00.000-05:002006-07-17T10:43:00.000-05:00What have they done to my Adoro?
