People say that as if it's never occured to one that the Church is suffering by offering martyrs in other parts of the world. But that's why WE have liturgical suffering, I guess. Because as a Church, we NEED to suffer to be conformed to Christ. It's just done in a really weird way here in the US (and Canada, and the UK, etc.)

Owen ~ Yeah, what that priest is doing might even invalidate the Mass, but as you were there you'd have a better idea.

We also have a music director who finds it necessary to change up the different parts of the Mass, usually for the worst stuff out there. Like the hoe-down gloria, which is anything but glorified.

She's leaving us, though, so I hear. I wish her luck and I'm praying for a MD who isn't allergic to Latin or anything involving good taste in music.

I heard from an Evangelical Protestant that they get the same music we do and they hate it just as much!Adorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02853244433854822731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15170815.post-18151737880475513562009-08-24T18:09:37.696-05:002009-08-24T18:09:37.696-05:00There's a priest in our diocese who skips the ...There's a priest in our diocese who skips the words in the big red book during certain prayers, especially at the beginning and ending of the Mass but not excluding other portions in favour of extemporaneous (i.e. made up on the spot and friendly, casual, less religious sounding) prayers that sound to me, a former evangelical, for all the world like evangelical prayers. This drives me nuts enough that I cannot hear the Mass there.

There's another church where the choir or music director changes up the music several times a year. Why? What's wrong with the way the "Lamb of God" as it is? The new version makes me think I should put on ice skates and do the skater's waltz and words have been added, unnecessarily except for the fact that the original words don't fit the new tune. So, for the sake of novelty and variety we can simple change the words of an ancient prayer of the Mass? Grrr.

And this same director has the choir singing 70s/80s protestant "praise and worship" choruses. For St. Peter's sake! I thought I'd left that. Call me narrow but I want to hear Catholic informed lyrics.

@H.O. When we were chatting at that quintessential Canadian franchise I know I spoke about how I felt I wasn't comfortable talking down any local parish. I guess I have fallen short of my own standard here. Sometimes I just can't take it.owenswainhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00540186205959897960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15170815.post-8190795289052827222009-08-24T17:38:20.796-05:002009-08-24T17:38:20.796-05:00Wow- bravo, my friend. I have heard the "starving children" retort in relation to several aspects of the Mass and congregations.
